When to Send Save the Dates (Simple Guide)

Save the dates: the official "put us on your calendar or else" of wedding planning. But when exactly should you send them? Let us break it down without the overwhelm.

For a local wedding, aim to get them in the mail 6 months before your date. Your guests have lives (allegedly), and six months gives them time to request PTO, book a babysitter, or start panicking about what to wear.

For a destination wedding — whether that's a vineyard in Napa or a beach in Mexico — push that to 8–12 months out. Flights, hotels, and passports don't book themselves.

Engagement just happened and you're still floating on cloud nine? That's totally fine. You don't need to send save the dates immediately. Get your venue locked in first, then circle back to stationery. (Spoiler: that's where we come in.)

At Viola & Beatrice, we design save the dates that actually get pinned to the fridge instead of tossed in the recycling pile. Custom designs, gorgeous paper, and your love story front and center.
